Greetings,

The January 2003 (Volume 46, Number 1) issue of Communications of the
ACM, has several articles by people who need topic maps!

The major focus of the issue is "Digital Government" and covers a wide
range of information assets used or delivered by various government
agencies. Among others, you will find:

"COPLINK: Managing Law Enforcement Data and Knowledge" p28 (Echoes of
Steve Newcomb's keynote on combattting terrorism.)

"Harvesting Information to Sustain Forests" p. 38

"Using an Ontology to Simplify Data Access" p. 47

An article not specifically on government resources that will also be of
interest is:

"The Knowledge Grid: Designing, building and implementing an
architecture for distributed knowledge discovery" p. 89

There are a number of articles in this issue that will be of interest to
anyone promoting the use of topic maps and the foregoing is merely a
sample of what can be found in this issue.

For anyone interested in new business models, Alan H. Karp (a principal
scientist at Hewlett-Packard, Palo Alto, CA) offers: "Making Money
Selling Content that Others Are Giving Away" p. 21

ACM members can access the journal online (with digital library
subscription) via the ACM site at: http://www.acm.org. If you are not a
member, you should seriously consider joining.

Hope everyone is having a great week!

Patrick
