Hello everyone,
ISO SC34 WG3, the working group within ISO responsible for topic maps,
will be meeting on Monday 2003-05-05 all day to discuss TMQL. Since we
now have a reasonably stable data model draft as well as a reasonably
good requirements draft (about which, more soon) we are ready to start
thinking about what form TMQL should take.
For this reason, we are requesting anyone interested in doing so to
present their proposal for a topic map query language at this meeting.
What we are looking for is presentations of actual query languages for
topic maps which the presenters would like to see considered as the
starting point for the work on TMQL. (Note: there is no requirement
that the presenter be in any way affiliated with ISO.)
These presentations should:
- last about 1 to 1.5 hours,
- introduce the language and the design approach taken in it
(functional, logical, declarative, ...), without necessarily
describing every aspect of it,
- focus on what makes the language a good candidate as a standard
query language for topic maps as well as what are perceived
weaknesses with the language,
- relate the language to the TMQL requirements, and
- if possible, be accompanied by a more complete presentation of the
language.
Those giving presentations are asked to set aside the entire day for
the ISO meeting in order to be available for questions and for the
discussion that will follow the presentations.
Note that if you are unable to attend the meeting but would like to
submit a proposal for consideration that is also possible.
Anyone interested in giving such a presentation or submitting a
proposal should contact the TMQL editors (larsga@ontopia.net,
holger.rath@empolis.com) for more information.
Thank you!
