Please don't forget that one user requirement will be that it can be viewed
in comparatively dumb XML tools, i.e. this kind of marginal-misuse of markup
will probably break some tools & so should be avoided.

That would be an option if we dispensed with the reference to W3C's C14N
standard which normalizes the whitespace within markup.
