| The more I think about it, the more I like the simplicity of the following:
|
| RM: Topic Maps Metamodel
| SAM: Topic Maps Information Set
|
| OK, so the acronyms are unpronounceable.
Unpronounceable acronyms can be an advantage. One of the first things which
struck me when I got to know RDF and Topic Maps was that RDF seems to have
been last in line when three-letter-acronyms were handed out, and Topic Maps
have a catchy and descriptive name. When the acronyms are unpronounceable,
people (outside WG3) will prefer the full names: 'Topic Maps Metamodel' and
'Topic Maps Information Set', so in discourse the name 'Topic Maps' will not
be hidden in an acronym.
