Well, the prose was vague simply because I didn't write very well. :)

I've been thinking about the feedback I've gotten and come to the
conclusion that the problem really is that the document is too brief.
I think I need to expand the text to make it more understandable, and
your proposal gives me a good way to explain this particular part,
because the problem really is as you describe it.
