Information Association

SC34/WG3 (full name: ISO/IEC JTC1/SC34/WG3) is a working group of SC34, which itself is a subcommittee of Joint Technical Committee 1 of the ISO and IEC. SC34 has three working groups, where WG1 deals with markup languages, WG2 with information presentation, and WG3 with information association. Chairman for SC34 is Sam Oh, while the convenor of WG3 is Patrick Durusau.

SC34/WG3 is responsible for producing standard architectures for information management and interchange based on ISO 8879, Standard Generalized Markup Language and related standards, including, but not limited to:

1. Information linking and addressing
2. Time-based information management
3. Representation of knowledge structures, indexes, etc.
4. Management of behavioral components in interactive documents

Standards for which WG3 is responsible include:

• HyTime (ISO/IEC/10744)        (more about HyTime)
• Topic Maps (ISO/IEC 13250)
• ISMID (ISO/IEC 13240)
• HTML (ISO/IEC 15545)

At the moment, most of the comittee's work is focused on the Topic Maps standard, and related activities. This is described in the Guide to the topic map standardization process.
